Waikato to Wellington, including the central high country: Fine today. Cloudy periods tomorrow, with isolated light showers about the west coast.
Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury: Fine today. High cloud increasing later tomorrow.
Otago and Southland: Fine today. High cloud tomorrow with a few spots of rain in the west later.
Buller and northern Westland: Mostly cloudy. Patchy drizzle developing tomorrow morning and turning rain at night.
Southern Westland and Fiordland: Patchy drizzle turning to rain tomorrow with heavy falls in the evening.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods, with the odd light shower tomorrow.
Friday: North Island, a few showers from Northland to Bay of Plenty, with one or two possible from Gisborne to Wairarapa. Showers becoming widespread elsewhere. South Island, rain in the west, heavy at first, clearing Westland late. Patchy rain or showers in the south. A few spots of morning rain elsewhere.
Saturday: Showers clearing then fine spells increasing over the North Island, but high cloud increasing over the South Island.
Sunday: Rain developing in the west of both Islands, with heavy falls about the South Island. Scattered rain or showers elsewhere. Northerlies rising to gale in exposed parts of the South Island and lower North Island, turning westerly overnight.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods on Friday. Northwesterlies, strong at first. A few showers on Saturday. Winds changing fresh southwest. Occasional rain on Sunday. Strong southerlies gradually turning northeast.
