Waikato to Wellington, including the central high country, also Wairarapa: Showers, some heavy with isolated thunderstorms and hail until evening. Mostly fine tomorrow, with isolated light showers.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Mostly fine. The odd shower spreading from the west until evening.
Marlborough, Nelson and Buller: Showers, some heavy with isolated thunderstorms and hail, clearing tonight but a few light showers remain in Buller.
Westland and Fiordland, also Canterbury, Otago and Southland: Cloudy periods, and scattered showers, some heavy and possibly thundery until tonight. Showers mostly confined to Southland and Clutha tomorrow, with rain developing in Fiordland and spreading to southern Westland at night.
Chatham Islands: Occasional rain, possibly heavy, easing tomorrow.
Friday: North Island, mostly fine in the north and east. Elsewhere, cloudy periods, and some patches of morning drizzle, then rain developing in the evening. South Island, rain spreading to most places, with some heavy falls in the west and south, and snow lowering to 700 metres in the south.
Saturday: North Island, early rain, then a few showers, mostly clearing later except in the east. South Island, showers for most places, gradually clearing in the west and south.
Sunday: North Island, rain developing in the north, and a few showers elsewhere, but mostly fine in the west from Taranaki to Wellington. South Island, mostly fine, but isolated showers, mainly in the afternoon and evening.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy on Friday, with westerlies turning northerly. Showers for Saturday and Sunday, with winds changing strong southwest on Saturday, then easing on Sunday.
