URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Taihape, Taumarunui, Hawkes Bay,
Tararua, Fiordland, Southland
HEAVY SNOW FOR TAUMARUNUI AND TAIHAPE TODAY. SNOW EASING IN THE LOWER
An unsettled cold southwesterly flow is expected to bring further
snow to lower levels about Taumarunui and Taihape until late this
afternoon. A further 5 to 10cm of snow is likely to accumulate above
700 metres until mid-afternoon (Sunday).
Heavy snow can cause major distruption to traffic, with blizzard
conditions likely in exposed areas.
The heavy snow about Fiordland and Southland has eased and the
warning there is now lifted, although a few more centimetres are
still likely today. Strong winds for Hawkes Bay south of Napier and
the Tararua District has eased and the warning there is also lifted.

Snow showers are expected to continue through to late afternoon. In
the 6 hours from 9am to 3pm today (Sunday), expect further 5 to 10cm
of snow to accumulate above 700 metres on top of what has already
fallen, with lesser amounts down to 600 metres.
FREEZING LEVEL: 1100m lowering to 800m early this afternoon.

Northland to Manawatu, including Bay of Plenty and the central high country: Occasional showers, with hail. Snow to 600 metres about the central high country today. Thunderstorms in the west tomorrow afternoon and evening.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Mainly fine. Isolated showers until evening and scattered rain developing tomorrow night.
Horowhenua, Kapiti, Wellington and Wairarapa: Fine today. Rain developing tomorrow, with possible thunderstorms.
Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury: Mainly fine today, but showers about western Nelson. Scattered rain developing tomorrow, with snow possible to 300 metres in Canterbury and 600 metres in Marlborough for a time.
Buller and Westland: Occasional showers, with hail north of Hokitika. Rain developing everywhere tomorrow morning, then clearing from the south later.
Otago, Southland and Fiordland: Showers, with snow above 300 metres, easing today. Becoming fine inland for a time overnight, with severe morning frosts, but showers return later tomorrow.
Chatham Islands: Showers with hail and possible thunderstorms.
Tuesday: North Island, scattered showers to start the day, then mainly fine. South Island, a few showers about the south coast and about Banks Peninsula at first, otherwise mainly fine with morning frosts.
Wednesday: North Island, a few showers developing in the north and in Wellington, and mainly fine elsewhere. South Island, rain developing in the west, and a few showers developing in the east.
Thursday: Rain spreading over the country.
Friday Rain for most places, but only a few showers for Fiordland.
Chatham Islands: Occasional showers on Tuesday and Wednesday, and strong southwesterlies easing. Rain developing on Thursday, and winds turning strong northerly. Rain and northerlies both easing on Friday.
