URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Gisborne, Hawkes Bay
HEAVY RAIN FOR GISBORNE AND NORTHERN HAWKES BAY
A low pressure system near Gisborne is expected to stay slow moving
until Saturday evening before heading eastwards overnight Saturday or
early Sunday. Rain with some heavy falls is forecast to continue
through to late Saturday. In the 24 hours from 9pm Friday, 100 to
130mm may accumulate in Gisborne and Hawkes Bay north of Wairoa.
People are advised that this amount of rain could cause rivers and
streams to rise rapidly, and slips and surface flooding are possible.

Rain with some heavy falls is expected to continue through to late
Saturday evening. In the 24 hours from 9pm Friday to 9pm Saturday,
expect a further 100 to 130mm of rain to accumulate. Peak intensities
15 to 35mm per hour possible with thunderstorms.

Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty: Scattered showers, possibly heavy, clearing Auckland this morning and Northland during the afternoon.
Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui and Taupo: Fine, apart from isolated showers.
Taranaki to Kapiti, including Taihape: Patchy drizzle, clearing this morning but persisting in Taihape.
Gisborne and northern Hawkes Bay: Rain with heavy falls and isolated thunderstorms.
Remainder of Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa and Wellington: Cloudy with a few showers. Showers clearing Wellington this morning then Wairarapa later, and becoming fine.
South Island: Fine with morning frosts.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy with occasional drizzle.
Sunday: North Island, mainly fine, with morning frosts in some places, but occasional showers about Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. South Island, cloudy periods.
Monday: North Island, cloud increasing, with a few showers developing in the north and also Horowhenua Kapiti Coast and Wellington. South Island, rain developing in the north and west. High cloud elsewhere, with a few spots of rain.
Tuesday: North Island, rain at times. South Island, rain at times in the north, and scattered showers elsewhere.
Chatham Islands: Often cloudy from Sunday through Tuesday with the odd shower, southeasterlies gradually turning northerly.
