URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Gisborne

HEAVY RAIN FOR GISBORNE
A trough just north of Gisborne is directing a moist easterly flow
over the region. Rain with heavy falls is expected in Gisborne
overnight and Tuesday morning, and a further 50 to 60mm of rain is
expected in the hills and ranges, particulary north of Tologa Bay.
This rain is expected to cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly and
may cause slips and surface flooding.

FORECAST:
Heavy rain is expected to ease in the morning. In the 12 hours from
9pm Monday to 9am Tuesday, a further 50 to 60mm is forecast to
accumulate in the hills and ranges of Gisborne on top of what has
already fallen, with lesser amounts at the coast. Heaviest falls are
expected north of Tologa Bay.
Note, further periods of light or moderate rain are expected on
Wednesday and may become heavy again on Thursday.

Northern and western areas from Northland to Taranaki, including Taumarunui and Taupo: Mostly cloudy with a few showers, some possibly heavy this afternoon and evening.
Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty: Scattered rain, but more widespread with heavy falls about the Coromandel Peninsula early this morning.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Periods of rain, heavy at times about the hills and ranges.
Whanganui and Taihape to Wellington, also Wairarapa: Patchy light rain at times.
Marlborough, Nelson, Buller and Westland: Occasional rain, easing in Buller and Westland this morning.
Canterbury, North Otago and Dunedin: Patchy rain or drizzle, clearing this morning, then a few afternoon and evening showers inland.
Central Otago, Clutha, Southland and Fiordland: Cloudy periods, and scattered afternoon or evening showers, some possibly heavy.
Chatham Islands: Mostly cloudy. The odd shower possible.
