Otago and Southland: Cloudy periods. Patchy rain developing from late afternoon, but only a few spots reaching coastal Otago.
Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Cloudy periods with a few showers. Rain developing about Fiordland this afternoon and spreading north into areas south of the glaciers this evening.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy, with patchy drizzle clearing late morning.
Friday: North Island, mostly fine in the north and east. Elsewhere, cloudy periods, and some patches of morning drizzle, then rain developing in the evening. South Island, rain spreading to most places, with some heavy falls in the west and south, and snow lowering to 700 metres in the south.
Saturday: North Island, early rain, then a few showers, mostly clearing later except in the east. South Island, showers for most places, gradually clearing in the west and south.
Sunday: North Island, rain developing in the north, and a few showers elsewhere, but mostly fine in the west from Taranaki to Wellington. South Island, mostly fine, but isolated showers, mainly in the afternoon and evening.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy on Friday, with westerlies turning northerly. Showers for Saturday and Sunday, with winds changing strong southwest on Saturday, then easing on Sunday.
