URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Coromandel Peninsula, Bay Of Plenty,
Gisborne

HEAVY RAIN FOR COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WESTERN BAY OF PLENTY AND
GISBORNE
A trough is moving slowly southwards over the upper North Island
preceded by easterly winds and a band of rain. Heavy rain about
Coromandel Peninsula and the western Bay of Plenty is expected to
spread southwards to the Gisborne region Sunday night, and although
it should ease in the north around dawn Monday it will likely
continue into Tuesday morning about Gisborne.
For Coromandel Peninsula and the western Bay of Plenty another 70mm
of rain may accumulate on top of what has already fallen, while 160mm
may accumulate about the hills and ranges of Gisborne, particularly
north of Tologa Bay.
The heavy rain is expected to cause streams and rivers to rise
rapidly and may cause slips and surface flooding.

FORECAST:
Heavy rain is expected to continue through to around dawn Monday. In
the 9 hours from 9pm Sunday to 6am Monday, another 40 to 70mm of rain
is expected to accumulate on top of what has already fallen. Peak
intensities of 15 to 20mm per hour.
Note, further periods of moderate rain are expected during Monday.
AREA/S AFFECTED: GISBORNE
FORECAST:
Rain is expected to become heavy Sunday night, then ease Tuesday
morning. In the 30 hours from midnight Sunday to 6am Tuesday, 120 to
160mm is forecast to accumulate in the hills and ranges of Gisborne
with lesser amounts down to sea level. Heaviest falls are expected
north of Tologa Bay. Peak intensities of 15 to 20mm per hour.
Note, further periods of moderate rain are expected during Tuesday.

Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty: Rain, with some heavy falls, gradually easing.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa: Occasional rain, persistent and heavier about the Hawkes Bay ranges and Gisborne.
Nelson, Buller and Westland: Mostly cloudy with scattered rain.
Marlborough, Canterbury, North Otago and Dunedin: Cloudy, with patchy rain or drizzle.
Central Otago, Clutha, Southland and Fiordland: Mostly cloudy. A few spots of rain in Central Otago and Fiordland.

Wednesday: North Island, rain in the east, showers becoming widespread elsewhere. South Island, rain in Marlborough, patches light rain or drizzle elsewhere, but dry in Southland and Clutha.
Thursday: North Island, rain or showers in most places, sunny breaks increasing Kapiti and Wellington. South Island, cloudy periods in Southland and Clutha.Elsewhere, scattered rain or drizzle gradually clearing.
Friday: North Island, a few showers in the east and far north, becoming fine elsewhere. South Island, remaining drizzle patches clearing, and sunny spells increasing, but showers in Fiordland.
Chatham Islands: From Tuesday through to Thursday, cloudy periods and northeasterlies.
