Short Range Forecast


Northland: Mainly fine, but a few afternoon showers.
Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty: A few showers developing this morning, then clearing this afternoon.
Gisborne to Wairarapa: Fine.
Waitomo to Wellington, including the central high country: Morning showers, followed by increasing fine spells.
Nelson: Mainly fine, but showers about the western ranges.
Buller and northern Westland: Occasional showers, turning to rain this evening.
Southern Westland and Fiordland: Periods of rain, heavy and possibly thundery this evening.
Marlborough to Southland: Fine with high cloud, apart from a few showers this morning about coastal Southland. However, scattered rain developing in the west this evening.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods, a few spots of rain later.

Extended Forecast


Thursday: North Island, rain for most places, with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms in the west. South Island, rain in the west, with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms. Rain in the south, and scattered rain in the east clearing for a time.
Friday: Showers in the west, may turning to rain for a time, fine in the east. However, scattered rain in the far south, with snow possible down to 400 metres at first.
Saturday: North Island, a period of rain for most places with heavy falls possible in the west. South Island, rain with some heavy falls in the west, rain or showers elsewhere, with snow to low levels in the south.
Chatham Islands: A period of rain later Thursday, with northwesterlies strengthening for a time. On Friday, showers and westerlies, may rise to gale for a time. On Saturday, rain developing and strengthening northwesterlies.
