Waikato to the Kapiti Coast, including Bay of Plenty and the central high country: Mostly fine, with morning frosts inland.
Gisborne to Wellington: Occasional showers, mostly about the coast, clearing in the south tomorrow. Canterbury: Fine, apart from a few showers about the Banks Peninsula, clearing tomorrow.
Fiordland, Clutha and Southland: Cloudy periods with a few showers, mainly about the coasts.
Remaining South Island regional areas : Fine with frosts morning and night.
Chatham Islands: Occasional showers, clearing tomorrow.
Friday: Mainly fine, with morning frosts in some places, but a few showers in Gisborne and the far south.
Saturday: Mainly fine with morning frosts, but a few showers in Northland, Gisborne and the far south.
Sunday: North Island, mainly fine with morning frosts, but the odd shower from Coromandel Peninsula northwards, and also about the Gisborne coast. South Island, mainly fine with morning frosts, but the odd shower in the far south, and also about the Marlborough coast.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods and showers on Friday. Mostly cloudy, with the odd shower on Saturday. Fine spells developing on Sunday. Strong southwesterlies, gale at first on Friday and again on Sunday.
