URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Hawkes Bay, Tararua

SEVERE WESTERLY GALES FOR HAWKES BAY SOUTH OF HASTINGS AND THE
TARARUA DISTRICT SATURDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON.
A low is expected to move southeast across central New Zealand
overnight tonight, bringing very strong westerly winds over much of
the North Island. Severe westerly gales gusting 130 km/h are expected
in exposed places of Hawkes Bay south of Hastings, and the Tararua
District, on Saturday morning and afternoon. Winds of this strength
could cause damage to trees and powerlines, and make driving
hazardous.

Northland to Waikato, also Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo: A few showers clearing this afternoon, but persisting about Waikato and Auckland until tomorrow morning.
Waitomo to Kapiti: Showers, gradually easing, mainly about the ranges tomorrow.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Tararua District: Fine weather. Severe westerly gales in exposed places south of Hastings, easing this afternoon.
Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, Wellington and Wairarapa: Mainly fine, but a few showers this afternoon.
Nelson, Marlborough to Southland, excluding Stewart Island: Remaining rain about Canterbury clearing this afternoon and becoming fine everywhere. A few showers developing south of Dunedin tomorrow evening.
Westland north of Punakaiki and Buller. A few showers today. Drizzle gradually turning to rain tomorrow.
Remainder of Westland, Fiordland and Stewart Island: Drizzle developing about Fiordland and Stewart Island this afternoon, spreading north later and turning to rain overnight. Some heavy and possibly thundery falls south of the Glaciers from tomorrow afternoon.
Chatham Islands: Showers clearing tomorrow morning.

Monday: North Island, a few showers in the west, mainly fine elsewhere. South Island, rain or showers in west and far south, with snow lowering to 500 metres in the south. Mainly fine elsewhere.
Tuesday: Remaining showers, and snow flurries to 500 metres in Southland, clearing and becoming mainly fine. However, a few showers developing about the east coast of the North Island.
Chatham Islands: Showers clearing and southwesterlies easing on Sunday. Cloudy periods on Monday, with northwest winds developing. Showers developing on Tuesday behind a strong, cold southwest change.
