The remainder of the North Island, that's Waikato to Wellington, including the central high country: Cloudy periods developing, with isolated light showers about the coast.
Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland: Fine with increasing high cloud. Isolated evening showers in Otago and Southland.
Buller: Patchy afternoon drizzle, turning to rain in the evening.
Westland and Fiordland: Drizzle developing, then rain spreading northwards and becoming heavy in the south later.
Chatham Islands: Mostly cloudy. The odd light shower possible.
Friday: North Island, a few showers from Northland to Bay of Plenty, and one or two possible from Gisborne to Wairarapa. Showers becoming widespread elsewhere. South Island, rain in the west, heavy at first, clearing Westland late. Patchy rain or showers in the south. A few spots of morning rain elsewhere.
Saturday: Showers clearing then fine spells increasing over the North Island. High cloud increasing over the South Island.
Sunday: Rain developing in the west of both Islands, with heavy falls about the South Island. Scattered rain or showers elsewhere. Northerlies rising to gale in exposed parts of the South Island and lower North Island, turning westerly overnight.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods on Friday. Northwesterlies, strong at first. A few showers on Saturday. Winds changing fresh southwest. Occasional rain on Sunday. Strong southerlies gradually turning northeast.
