Short Range Forecast


For all the North Island, except Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Rain spreading east today, followed by fine spells. However, showers returning tonight or tomorrow morning, some heavy, with thunderstorms possible about Taranaki and Bay of Plenty. Showers gradually easing from tomorrow afternoon and becoming mainly fine Auckland northwards.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay: High cloud today with a few brief falls of rain. Mainly fine tomorrow, but isolated showers late morning and afternoon.
Nelson, Buller, Marlborough: A few showers mainly about the ranges, turning to rain this evening or overnight, some heavy falls and possible thunderstorms. Showers tomorrow, especially afternoon and evening, some heavy and possibly thundery.
Westland and Fiordland: A few showers clearing in the south this afternoon. Mostly fine tomorrow, but afternoon and evening showers chiefly about the ranges.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland: Showers, mainly this afternoon and again tomorrow afternoon, some heavy and possibly thundery.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy, rain developing tonight.

Thursday: North Island, fine spells, but a few showers also, mainly in the west. South Island, a few showers in the west, turning to heavy rain in Fiordland, some high cloud and a few spots of rain elsewhere.
Friday: North Island, fine breaks, but the odd shower in the west, turning to rain overnight. South Island, rain spreading to most places, with some heavy falls in the west and south, and snow about the hilltops in the south. Saturday: North Island, early rain easing to a few showers and mostly clearing in the north. South Island, rain or showers in most places, but becoming fine in Westland and Fiordland.
Chatham Islands: On Thursday, the odd shower at first, but fine breaks increasing. Winds turning westerly. On Friday, cloudy periods and northerlies developing later. On Saturday, a few showers and a strong westerly change.
