However, showers returning overnight from Taranaki to Northland, some heavy with possible thunderstorms.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Cloudy, with a few light showers.
Nelson, Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Rain spreading north today, with heavy falls from evening and possible thunderstorms. Rain clearing in Fiordland tomorrow morning and easing to showers elsewhere. Showers becoming heavy and possibly thundery at night.
Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland: Scattered rain developing this afternoon or evening, but mainly dry near the east coast, then becoming fine tomorrow morning. However, showers returning for a time tomorrow afternoon and evening, some heavy with possible thunderstorms for Southland and Otago.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy with rain or drizzle tomorrow evening.
Wednesday: North Island, rain or showers in most places, some heavy falls about the ranges, clearing later. South Island, showers in most places, a few heavy in the afternoon.
Thursday: North Island, fine spells, but a few showers in the south and west. South Island, rain developing in the west, and a few spots of rain elsewhere.
Friday: North Island, showers spreading to most places, but only a few in the east. South Island, heavy rain in the west easing. Late rain in the south and a few showers elsewhere.
Chatham Islands: Showers on Wednesday with northerly winds. On Thursday, the odd shower, but fine breaks increasing. Winds turning westerly. On Friday, cloudy periods and northwesterlies.
