URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Coromandel Peninsula, Gisborne
FURTHER HEAVY RAIN FOR COROMANDEL PENINSULA AND GISBORNE
The moist easterly flow continues to bring rain to already sodden
parts of the North Island. Although rainfall intensities have eased a
bit, Coromandel Peninsula and northern Gisborne are still likely to
see some heavy falls, with up to 70mm possible in Coromandel, and
50mm in northern Gisborne.
Both these regions have had significant rainfall during the last few
days, and this rain could exacerbate any issues, such as surface
flooding and slips. Streams and rivers are likely to remain high and
could rise further for a time.

Rain is forecast to continue today and tonight, with heavy falls at
times. In the 24 hours till 9am Friday, expect a further 50 to 75mm
of rain to accumulate. Lighter falls are likely through the remainder
AREA/S AFFECTED: GISBORNE, NORTH OF THE CITY
Periods of rain are expected today, with some heavy falls, especially
about the ranges. In the 12 hours from 9am to 9pm Thursday another 40
to 50mm of rain could accumulate, especially about the ranges. Peak
intensities of 10 to 15mm per hour.

Waikato to Whanganui, including the central high country: Scattered showers, some thundery about the central high country tomorrow.
Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Occasional rain, with some heavy falls, easing to scattered showers tomorrow.
Manawatu to Wellington: A few showers clearing this afternoon, returning tomorrow afternoon.
Wairarapa, Marlborough, Canterbury and coastal Otago: Mostly cloudy, with areas of drizzle clearing this afternoon. Fine spells and scattered showers developing tomorrow afternoon, some showers heavy inland with isolated thunderstorms.
Nelson, Buller: Cloudy periods and scattered showers, possibly heavy and thundery inland today.
Inland Otago, Southland, Fiordland, Westland: Mostly fine. Isolated showers in the afternoon and evenings, some heavy with isolated thunderstorms.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy.
Saturday: North Island, a few showers for most, becoming more frequent. South Island, A few showers turning to rain in the west. Fine spells with isolated afternoon showers further east.
Sunday: Rain or showers for most with heavy falls possible in the west of both the North and the South of both Islands.
Monday: Showers, some heavy, easing and gradually easing and clearing later.
Chatham Islands: Showers and northerlies on Saturday and Sunday. Rain easing to a few showers in Monday as northerlies eases.
