Short Range Forecast


North Island, excluding Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Cloud thickening. A few showers developing in Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo this afternoon or evening. Rain developing in the west tonight, spreading east to most places tomorrow morning, then becoming mainly fine later. However, showers returning overnight from Taranaki to Northland, some heavy with possible thunderstorms.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Cloudy, with a few light showers.
Nelson, Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Rain spreading north today, with heavy falls from evening and possible thunderstorms. Rain clearing in Fiordland tomorrow morning and easing to showers elsewhere. Showers becoming heavy and possibly thundery at night.
Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland: Scattered rain developing this afternoon or evening, but mainly dry near the east coast, then becoming fine tomorrow morning. However, showers returning for a time tomorrow afternoon and evening, some heavy with possible thunderstorms for Southland and Otago.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy with rain or drizzle tomorrow evening.

Tuesday: North Island, rain at times, brief heavy falls. South Island, rain or showers in most places, briefly heavy in the west.
Wednesday: North Island, rain or showers in most places, some heavy falls in the west, clearing later. South Island, showers in the north, afternoon showers elsewhere.
Thursday: North Island, fine spells, but a few showers in the south and west. South Island, mainly fine with high cloud, but rain developing in Fiordland and a few showers elsewhere in the west.
Friday: North Island, mainly fine, but a few showers in the west. South Island, rain or showers in the west, late rain in the south, high cloud elsewhere.
Chatham Islands: On Tuesday, cloudy with rain developing in the afternoon. Northeast winds. Showers on Wednesday with northeast winds easing. On Thursday, the odd shower, but fine breaks and southwesterlies developing.
