Short Range Forecast


Northland: Mainly fine, but a few afternoon showers.
Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty: Few showers developing this morning, then clearing by evening, but persisting east of Whakatane.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Fine.
Waitomo to Wellington, including the central high country, also Wairarapa: Morning showers, followed by increasing fine spells.
Nelson and Marlborough to Southland: Brief morning rain, but only a few spots reaching the east coast, then fine. Scattered rain returning in the west tonight.
Buller and northern Westland: Showers with a period of rain early morning and again tonight.
Southern Westland and Fiordland: Periods of rain, heavy and possibly thundery at first and again late this evening.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods, few spots of rain later.

Extended Forecast


Thursday: North Island, rain for most places, with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms in the west. South Island, rain in the west, with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms. Rain in the south, and scattered rain in the east clearing for a time.
Friday: Showers in the west, may turning to rain for a time, fine in the east. However, scattered rain in the far south, with snow possible down to 400 metres at first.
Saturday: North Island, a period of rain for most places with heavy falls possible in the west. South Island, rain with some heavy falls in the west, rain or showers elsewhere, with snow to low levels in the south.
Chatham Islands: A period of rain later Thursday, with northwesterlies strengthening for a time. On Friday, showers and westerlies, may rise to gale for a time. On Saturday, rain developing and strengthening northwesterlies.
