Mobile phone provider 2degrees is going after Spark and Vodafone's broadband customers.

2degrees has bought internet service provider Snap, and plans to offer mobile and broadband services nationwide.

The combined companies will have a total of 900 staff. Snap's offerings will be rebranded as 2degrees.

In a statement, 2degrees said both companies top customer satisfaction rankings in their respective fields.

CEO Stewart Sherriff said the pairing makes sense, as they have enjoyed a selling partnership arrangement for two years already.

"Snap provides the perfect complement to our mobile offering and will allow us to deliver the total package that our customers – and theirs – have been asking for.

"Snap and 2degrees would have to be the best fit I've seen in terms of people, network and product. They have a great team of people who do the things we can't do, but they operate under the same values – which shows through in what their customers say about them."

Snap CEO Mark Petrie will join the 2degrees senior leadership team, and take charge of the company's broadband division.

"There is a limited window of opportunity to win business as the [ultra-fast broadband] networks are rolled out," said Mr Petrie.

"A fixed-mobile offer allows us to put our best foot forward and 2degrees is the best company to drive that growth."

Mr Sherriff says the transition will take place "over time" to minimise the impact on current customers.
