CDs still the biggest moneyspinner - Recorded Music

Figures released by the New Zealand music industry show the continued rapid growth of streaming services.

Music streaming generated almost $13 million last year, up 15 percent on 2013.

Surprisingly, physical sales are still the largest slice of the pie – but only if you separate downloads and streaming, which together, now make up 60 percent of all recorded music revenue.

"In isolation, physical product is still the biggest stream," Recorded Music CEO Damian Vaughan said on Firstline this morning.

And that includes CDs, vinyl and even cassette tapes, believe it or not.
