Insurance company Youi to face court

Insurance company Youi is facing more than a dozen charges over misleading potential customers and taking money from their accounts without their permission or knowledge.

The Commerce Commission alleges the company misled customers about insurance quotes, provided false information to customers during sales calls and debited consumers' bank or credit card accounts without their permission.

Youi has indicated it will plead guilty to the 15 charges upon its appearance in the Auckland District Court today.

Chief executive Danie Matthee acknowledged last month that while the complaints were valid, none of the "transgressions" were made within the company's standard operating procedures.

Youi instead blamed the "actions of employees or processes".

The company has since made changes to its website content and disclosures in an attempt to "improve clarity, compliance and alignment with customer expectations".
