Fiji's military has swung into action, helping resorts to clean up the damage left by Cyclone Evan.
Soldiers have been dispatched to hotels to help clear the debris and repair the destruction caused by the storm.
More than 100 inmates from Fijian prisons have also been deployed to Nadi and Lautoka to assist with the clean up.
A state of natural disaster was declared yesterday in the northern and western parts of the island.
The New Zealand Government is pledging another $2 million to help recovery efforts in Fiji and Samoa.
Some holiday resorts struck by Evan in the two countries will take months to recover.
The storm destroyed homes, flooded rivers, and cut power and water - leaving five dead and 10 still missing.
House of Travel commercial director Brent Thomas says a number of New Zealanders are cancelling or deferring their holiday plans.
"We do know some of the resorts won't be open until late March at the earliest, and so for those people, we are looking definitely to rebook them into a different resort, or transfer their bookings to later in the year."
Mr Thomas says Samoa and Fiji will get back up and running quickly and the cyclone won't have much of a long-term impact.
"One sort of thing which is good about this is it hasn't happened over the Christmas period, so therefore there is some time to sort it out before next weekend when a lot of people are heading back up to see family friends, or are heading up to have a holiday in the islands.
Mr Thomas says April and July are the height of the tourist season for Fiji and Samoa.
