Miners angry at Solid Energy releasing pay rates

A spat between striking West Coast coal miners and Solid Energy has heated up with the employer releasing pay rates for the miners.

Around 140 miners at two west coast mines are into their eighth day of strikes, after the collapse of pay negotiations.

Solid Energy has released figures to a local paper showing miners can earn up to $100,000 a year including overtime and bonuses.

But the union for the miners says on the West Coast they only earn up to $58,000 a year.

Engineering Printing and Manufacturing Union representative Matthew Winter says it is an irresponsible move by Solid Energy.
