Long lines have already formed for the launch of the latest Tesla electric car -- and Kiwis have been named among those able to buy the highly coveted vehicles.
In a post on Twitter, Tesla founder Elon Musk announced that New Zealand -- alongside India, Brazil, South Africa, South Korea, Singapore and Ireland -- has been added to the list of countries able to order the Tesla 3.
Mr Musk also said the Model S and Model X will be made available.
In scenes reminiscent of an Apple iPhone launch, people started queuing seven hours ahead of the unveiling of the anticipated Tesla 3, to pre-order a car they have not yet seen.

The Tesla 3 is being heralded as the affordable electric car and will be unveiled at the company's Los Angeles design studio. The car won't go on sale until late 2017, but from today potential buyers can put down a $1000 deposit.
With a starting price of around $50,000, the car is half the price of previous models and will have an expected range of about 320km.
Currently, Tesla does not have an official dealer or partner in New Zealand.
