New Zealand's first Tiffany & Co opens in Auckland's Britomart precinct this morning.

Tiffany & Co was founded in New York in 1837 as a stationery and fancy goods emporium but is most renowned for its jewellery collection.

The glass windows will be dressed with Tiffany's famous diamond engagement rings as well as the Tiffany key collection.

As for the store itself, the Australis building has had a $40 million makeover.

The store's interior will feature archival motifs symbolic of Tiffany's heritage such as the Tiffany Blue colour and a metal wheat leaf pattern that frames the New York store.

Tiffany and Co store director says the time couldn't be better to open the doors.

"The enormous amount of hits that our website sees from this market, specifically Auckland, told us that it was time to open," he says.
