Union wants work to resume at mine

A plan which aims to speed up the resumption of work at the Spring Creek Mine will today be put to Solid Energy's board of directors.

More than 200 workers remain on leave after operations were suspended last month.

The mine union's Garth Elliot says the plan would bring coal extraction forward:

"The idea is to create some revenue for the mine, for the mine to be able to keep operating," he says. "Rather than throwing capital into it all the time, the mine will become self-sufficent."
