Aerosmith price cut angers fans

Fears of a mostly empty stadium have forced promoters of Aerosmith's one-off gig in Dunedin to slash prices, angering fans who had already bought tickets at full price.

Tickets to tomorrow night's one-off show at Forsyth-Barr Stadium in Dunedin are on sale via daily deal site GrabOne from only $49, half the price they are on the Ticket Direct website. Silver GA tickets have also been slashed, now selling for $99, down from $149.

Promoters Jacman Entertainment had hoped for a sell-out crowd of 40,000, but will probably have to settle for less than half that – as of yesterday 17,000 tickets had been sold, and only another 600 have been bought from GrabOne.

Angry fans took to Forsyth-Barr stadium's Facebook page to complain.

"Really angry and disgusted to see that there are discounted Aerosmith tickets available on GrabOne today," writes Anne Stansfield.

"So unfair to those Dunedinites who showed their support early on."

"Once again the stadium has shamed itself," writes Bobby Brown.

A representative for stadium operator Dunedin Venues responded yesterday, saying they have asked Jacman Entertainment to remove the offer from GrabOne.

"We are committed to protecting the interests of our loyal customers who supported this event by getting in early and therefore requested the promoter remove the discounted tickets from GrabOne."

Another disgruntled fan says there is a "codeword being emailed around that gets $169 tickets for $99 and standing for $69".

"Not good as I paid $169 for 4 and could have saved myself $280," writes Dene McDonald.

Not all fans have reacted angrily, however.

"We paid full price too but I am not upset at all," writes Jan Jackman. "We are going to see one of the most famous bands in the world and have a great time."

Doors open at 4pm. Aerosmith are due on stage at 9:30pm, with support from Head Like a Hole, Dead Daisies and Wolfmother.
