American comedian Amy Schumer has cancelled her upcoming Auckland show due to illness.

The Trainwreck star was set to perform at Vector Arena on Friday, December 17, and refunds are now being offered to ticket buyers.

Schumer's Australian shows have also been cancelled, and promoter Live Nation says replacement dates cannot be worked out due to her tight schedule.

"Amy Schumer and Live Nation apologise for any disappointment," the company said in a statement.

Customers seeking a refund after buying a ticket in person must return to the same outlet with the ticket, the credit card used to purchase it and photo ID, the company says.

Phone and online purchasers will have their credit card refunded automatically, but may have to wait up to 10 days.

Meanwhile, Schumer is facing a nasty backlash after it was revealed she was in talks to play the lead role in a live-action Barbie movie.

Online trolls have mocked the casting rumour, with many saying she lacked the physique to portray the famously slim doll.
