The finalists of the Vodafone Pacific Music Awards have just been announced, with household names like Sol3 Mio, Beau Monga and Ill Semantics among the finalists.

With 18 finalists in line for 11 categories, artists Annie Grace, Te Vaka and Vince Harder lead the pack with four final nods apiece.

There are a range of faces in the list of nominees, including artists who are new to the scene.

"The Pacific music industry has never been in better health," says Vodafone Pacific Music Awards Trust spokesperson Reverend Mua Strickson-Pua.

Last year, the awards were dominated by new artists. This year, there is a resurgence of new and already established groups.

"Last year we saw 11 artist brands new to the awards. This year, we've got a combination of established musicians and newcomers. That's evidence of the vibrancy of this industry, which recognises and retains its history while constantly breaking ground with fresh new music," says Mr Strickson-Pua.

All of the 2016 finalists will be in the running for the Vodafone People's Choice Award for Best Pacific Artist, which is decided solely by public vote.

This is the 12th year of the awards, and the winners will be announced at an event celebrating and honouring Pacific music and artists, at the Vodafone Events Centre on June 9.
