Ubisoft has officially unveiled the next major Assassin's Creed game, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, set for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC later this year.

Set in London in 1868, during the Industrial Revolution, Syndicate follows two protagonists; twins Jacob and Evie Frye. The pair leads an uprising against an oppressive regime, with the help of prominent Victorian-era figures like Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens.

In open-world sections, players will be able to switch between the twins at will, but story missions will be locked to specific characters for narrative reasons.

Syndicate will not have a multiplayer component, with the development team wanting to "focus on creating the biggest city-based, open-world that we've ever had for an Assassin's Creed game".

The map of London is said to be 30 percent bigger than that of Assassin's Creed Unity's Paris, and is made up of six boroughs: Westminster, the Strand, the City of London, Whitechapel, Southwark and Lambeth.

As well as the CGI trailer above, Ubisoft released some pre-alpha gameplay footage and another trailer going through Jacob Frye's weapons:

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 23, followed by a PC release at a later date.
