The Auckland City Limits music festival will be returning to Western Springs on March 11, 2017.

In the absence of the Big Day Out, New Zealand's first City Limits event earlier this year was a big success, with more than 25,000 people attending.

The line-up featured Kendrick Lamar, The National, Ladyhawke, Action Bronson, Modest Mouse and Girl Talk - but promoters reckon next year's will be better.

"We have some amazing artists coming and we are already working hard to ensure Auckland City Limits 2017 will be bigger and better," says promoter Campbell Smith.

"It has always been our intention to establish Auckland City Limits as an annual event, so we are excited to be able to set the date for our second year."

The one-day, all-ages festival - based on the Austin City Limits festival - will also once again showcase the culinary delights of Auckland chefs in Auckland Eats, along with local art and a children's section.

Tickets go on sale in October.
