Rocker Axl Rose has taken aim at Indonesian President Joko Widodo for ignoring international pleas for clemency and executing two convicted drug traffickers.
The nation's leader sentenced Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran to death by firing squad, despite an international campaign to keep the men alive.
Rose and actor Geoffrey Rush were among the celebrities who reached out to the President, with the Guns N' Roses leader recalling a show his band played in Jakarta in 2009. He appealed to Widodo as a fellow heavy rock fan in an open letter.
But, a day after hearing the executions went ahead as scheduled, Rose took to Twitter to attack the President.
1. It's deeply troubling President Widodo ignoring International outcry went thru w/8 of the executions.

3. Widodo's refusal 2 postpone the executions until all legal challenges n' investigations of corruption r resolved is inexcusable.

4. 4 Widodo 2 b out of the country during his big statement refusing 2 take calls or read any last minute pleas 4 the condemned is cowardice

5. The People of Indonesia deserve better.

Chan and Sukumaran were executed on the Indonesian prison island of Nusakambangan. Their fellow prisoner, Jane Fiesta Veloso, was handed a stay of execution after another suspect surrendered to police.
2. Let's pray Miss Veloso's reprieve is permanent.
