Beckhams win house planning battle

David Beckham and his wife Victoria have won a battle against their next-door neighbour over plans to install air-conditioning units in their luxury London home.

The couple submitted proposals to local officials to place the systems in five rooms of their £31.5 million mansion in February, but the plans angered a neighbour, who insisted he "totally disagrees" with the application as the air-conditioning would "affect the historic character" of the street.

The blueprints have now been approved by planning bosses at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council subject to minor conditions. A report states the ventilation units will have minimal impact on the building and the noise created from them is in line with the council's guidelines.

Jonathan Bore, the executive director for planning and development, tells Telegraph.co.uk, "The proposals would safeguard the special architectural and historic interest of the listed building, would preserve the character and appearance of the conservation area, would preserve the living conditions of neighbouring occupiers, and would have an acceptable impact on trees."

The Beckhams bought the mansion in London's luxury Holland Park neighbourhood in 2013.
