Calvin Harris refuses to play 'embarrassing' early hits

British DJ/producer Calvin Harris has distanced himself from his early work because he feels embarrassed by the music that launched his career.

The Scottish artist burst onto the music scene in 2007 with hit tracks including 'Acceptable In The 80s' and 'The Girls', and has since gone on to become the world's highest paid DJ, according to Forbes magazine, after working with stars including Rihanna and Dizzee Rascal.

Harris has now revealed he made a determined effort to distance himself from his early hits by dramatically changing his musical style in 2010, and he now refuses to play the tracks that drove his rise to stardom.

He tells Australian radio station Triple J, "I don't play anything I made back then because I feel like I'm a different thing now... I was on tour in Australia and made an obnoxious club track 'Awooga', almost to get rid of people who liked my old music. It was so different, a hard club track, and I wanted to do it. I wanted to DJ and play it and I wanted to forget about everything from my past. Even though it did well for me in clubs and I enjoyed it, I did not want to do it any more. I wanted to draw a line under it."
