Police in a small Canadian town have revealed a new weapon to address drink driving this Christmas: Nickelback.
The Canadian rock band has never been considered the most fashionable of musical groups, and Kensington Police Service on Cape Breton Island appears to be using that to their advantage.
Kensington Police warned in a Facebook post that anyone caught driving drunk will be fined, suspended, and forced to listen to the "office's copy of Nickelback in the cruiser on the way to jail".
They said that as the holiday season begins, officers "will be out for the remainder of year looking for those dumb enough to feel they can drink and drive".
"And when we catch you, and we will catch you, on top of a hefty fine, a criminal charge and a year's driving suspension, we will also provide you with a bonus gift of playing the office's copy of Nickelback in the cruiser on the way to jail.
"Now, now, no need to thank us, we figure if you are foolish enough to get behind the wheel after drinking then a little Chad Kroeger and the boys is the perfect gift for you.
"So please, let's not ruin a perfectly good unopened copy of Nickelback. You don't drink and drive and we won't make you listen to it."
The post received more than 1000 shares and reactions.
It's not the first time Nickelback have been mocked by police. In 2015, Queensland Police Service posted on their social media accounts to warn Brisbane residents ahead of a Nickelback concert that the band was expected to be 'committing musical crimes'.
