Claire Danes is sure her success won't last.
The actress portrays Carrie Mathison in Homeland, with the role winning her two Golden Globe awards so far.
Prior to Homeland, Danes spent two years out of work, which has made her rather cynical about her future in the industry.
"I can't remember; I tried to somehow live my life," she admitted to Germany's Tele 5 when asked about that period.
"You can spend a lot of time looking for a job. I tried everything, it's just that nothing ever came of it. It makes me even more grateful now. But the success I'm experiencing now won't last forever. There will be more dry spells and I need to start believing in myself."
As Carrie, Danes is impulsive and makes snap decisions, which often land her in grave danger. In her real life, the star is much more cautious - one of the reasons she loves her job.
"I am very careful, and I think before I speak," she revealed.
"That's why I love the work I do; I need to step outside of my comfort zone. I want to be impulsive and wild and trust my instincts."
Last year Danes and her actor husband Hugh Dancy welcomed their son Cyrus.
The actress, 34, is overwhelmed by how well her career and personal life are going.
"I've never been so happy," she gushed.
"My beautiful little boy is such a delight. If I'm playing a dark character, I just have to look at him and I feel better. I'm much cooler since I've had a child. It's also given Hugh a lot of strength. Everything we do is for our baby and for us as a family. Work comes in second place. We've been lucky so far and have had compatible filming schedules."
