It's a classic rock fan's dream come true: Paul McCartney, The Who, Roger Waters, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and The Rolling Stones all performing at one gig.

Dubbed 'Oldchella' and officially called Desert Trip, the festival is a one off three-day event taking place in California from October 7-9.

Three-day passes start at NZ$575 and go on sale next Tuesday morning (NZ time). If you want a front-row view, it'll set you back NZ$2311.

For your money you'll get a full set from each group though. Friday night will be the Stones and Dylan; Saturday night, McCartney and Young; and on Sunday, Pink Floyd's Roger Waters and The Who.

All the acts started their careers in the 1960s, and are aged 70 years-plus.

Dylan and McCartney still regularly release new material. McCartney's New was released in 2013 to warm reviews, and his collaboration with Kanye West and Rihanna, 'FourFiveSeconds', topped charts worldwide last year.

Roger Waters' last solo album was 2005's Ca Ira, an opera; his last rock album was 1992's Amused to Death.

The Who haven't released a new album since 2006's Endless Wire, and last put out a single in 2014.

The Rolling Stones haven't put out an album since 2005's A Bigger Bang, but have plans to release a new one later this year.

Neil Young has barely slowed down in the twilight of his career, having released three in the last two years.
