Celebrated film composer Richard Robbins has lost his battle with Parkinson's disease at the age of 71.
The musician died last Wednesday at his home in Rhinebeck, New York.
Robbins spent much of his career penning the music for Merchant Ivory Productions, working on movies directed by James Ivory and/or produced by Ismail Merchant, and his work on 1992's Howards End and 1993's The Remains of the Day, starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, earned him back-to-back Oscar nominations.
His other film credits include Quartet, The Perfect Murder, The Ballad of the Sad Cafe, Surviving Picasso, The Girl and Le Divorce.
He also landed a BAFTA nomination for 1985 film A Room With a View and won the Golden Osella prize for best music at the 1987 Venice Film Festival for his work on romantic drama Maurice.
Robbins' final film score featured in 2005's The White Countess.
