Simon Barnett says he is ecstatic after being crowned the king of Dancing with the Stars and he never expected to make it this far.

The radio personality broke down in tears recounting the final dance during an interview the day after he was confirmed the winner of TV3's latest reality show.

"That moment it was like wow, I think we may have done it. I'll never forget that," he says.

His dance partner Vanessa Cole says she is enjoying "soaking up the moment".

Barnett says he faced a mental blank when he forgot 30 seconds of his routine in last night's final but Cole says the duo's comeback was a testimony to the hard work put in over the past three months.

"When it's live television and you have no way to get back in, to be able to do what we did, that says a lot about what we have achieved," she says.

Barnett says the consuming lifestyle took a major toll on family life, but it was something that he would not take back.

"You hold that mirror ball trophy and you go wow, this represents hundreds of hours over 12 weeks," he says.

The duo scored a perfect 30 points in last night's finale, beating runner-up Chrystal Chenery and her dance partner Johnny Williams.

Outrageous Fortune actress Siobhan Marshall came in third place.
