Kevin Federline felt awkward about dating Britney Spears after Justin Timberlake.

Britney, 33, and Justin, 34, enjoyed a high-profile relationship between 1999 and 2002, having both been Mouseketeers on The Mickey Mouse Club. Fans loved their relationship and were devastated when they went their separate ways, especially when Justin released his track 'Cry Me A River' about their romance.

Britney moved on with Kevin, 37, who she was married to between 2004 and 2007. He's now opened up about the situation, which he found hugely uncomfortable because he had history with Justin.

"In the beginning when [Britney and I] first got together, it was awkward and I felt bad - I felt like maybe I should have called [Justin] and talked to him," he recalled to Us Weekly. "But I didn't have his number."

Kevin once performed in one of Justin's videos - the promo for 2002 track 'Like I Love You' - which could be why he was embarrassed about his actions. It seems Justin wasn't too cut up about their relationship though, as he's since forged a friendship of sorts with the former backing dancer.

"We're cool. Me and J are. I actually just went to his last show in Vegas and hung out with him, got to see a lot of old friends," Kevin explained. "I'm friends with all the security guys. [They're] great, they're incredible. We've actually - guys that work with him have worked with us and still work with me, still to this day. You know everybody, you're friends with everybody. And yeah, me and J are cool."

Kevin's best friend is a choreographer for Justin, so they can't help but cross paths occasionally. It seems they have managed to stay on friendly terms and have played golf together, although they're not so close that they ever chat about their famous ex.

"No, no," Kevin laughed, when asked if he and Justin ever discussed Britney. "Yeah, it is what it is to us."

Kevin and Britney have two children together, Sean Preston, nine, and eight-year-old Jayden James.
