A new Sir David Attenborough documentary entitled Conquest of the Skies is currently being filmed in Borneo, and Atlantic Productions plans to bring it to the Oculus Rift head-mounted virtual reality display.

"We're now filming for the Oculus Rift, so when we filmed our recent flight in Borneo, we filmed with an eight-camera rig, so you got the full [360 degree] experience," Atlantic's commercial director, John Morris, told realscreen.

The London-based production company already has a number of Oculus Rift development kits, and Morris predicts that the hardware will sell millions.

"In terms of the creative challenge, we look at this as being comparable to the beginning of the film industry," said Morris of the opportunities offered by VR technology, comparing audience experiences to reactions from cinema-goers seeing the Lumière brothers' famous The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Station for the first time.
