Blizzard has released the long awaited patch 2.0.1 for Diablo III, which introduces the new Loot 2.0 system and a raft of other changes.

Loot 2.0 makes it more likely that random item drops will be tailored to the player's character class, as well as narrowing potential stat ranges for equipment.

The other major change is a complete revision of the difficulty system. Nightmare, Hell, and Inferno difficulties have been removed, in favour of dynamic difficulty broken down into five categories, Normal, Hard, Expert, Master, and Torment. Torment includes an additional six sliders, affecting the power of enemies and the quality of items dropped.

Other additions include Clan and Community social features, new hero statistics, and temporary experience boosts obtained by finding Pools of Reflection. The update also brings a wealth of mechanical changes for each class.

The patch has gone live on the American client, the default for New Zealand-based players, yesterday, and will roll out to Europe and Asia soon.

The full patch notes can be viewed at Blizzard's official website.
