Sean 'Diddy' Combs has avoided felony charges.

The 45-year-old hip hop mogul was arrested in June after confronting Sal Alosi, the strength coach for his son Justin's Bruins football team at the University of California Los Angeles.

Diddy was initially accused of three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats and one count of battery.

But according to Variety he has escaped any felonies in relation to the matter, as the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office decided not to file assault charges against the Bad Boy Records music mogul.

However, this doesn't mean Diddy is exempt from possibly being punished for the encounter.

Since the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office has declined to pursue a felony on the matter, the case will now be reviewed by the Los Angeles City Attorney, which will determine whether or not to press misdemeanour charges against the rapper.

TMZ reports the Los Angeles City Attorney could come to a decision on the case by next week.

Various reports over what actually occurred between Sal and Diddy have emerged, with some accounts suggesting the musician visited the UCLA campus because Sal was harassing his 21-year-old son Justin excessively.

But Diddy's team claimed most takes on the incident are completely false.

"The various accounts of the event and charges that are being reported are wholly inaccurate," Nathalie Moar, a representative for Combs Enterprises, told The Associated Press.

"What we can say now is that any actions taken by Mr Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son. We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed."
