The Dixie Chicks will headline the 2017 Mission Estate Concert as the event celebrates its 25th year.

The 'Wide Open Spaces' hitmakers are one of the highest-selling groups on the planet and are renowned for their ferocious concerts.

"They've been awarded 13 Grammys, sold 30 million records and are the biggest-selling female act of all time, in America," says Garry Craft of promoters Sports and Entertainment Ltd.

"This'll be their first time in New Zealand and their only concert here, so we're very much looking forward it."

Mr Craft says he has been trying to get the Dixie Chicks for about 18 months, after coming to his attention through their "incredible success".

He adds that they're "not really" a country music act, although that is their roots.

"They've got a huge reputation for great performances - they embrace the band, they do all sorts of set changes. The tour they're doing currently, they do two Prince songs, a Beyonce song and a Fleetwood Mac cover."

The Mission Concert was on hiatus last year after not securing a headlining artist for the event, but organisers say bringing the event back will be very good for the region.

"Without question, the biggest outdoor event in the Southern Hemisphere, the biggest winery concert," says Peter Holley, CEO of Mission Estate.

"We have a very strong, vibrant community here. People enjoy outdoors and they also enjoy world class entertainment. It's a great mix of people, opportunity and time."

Tickets for the April 8, 2017 gig go on sale on Monday.
