Legendary Italian composer Ennio Morricone, who has scored several classic Westerns, is to work on the music for Quentin Tarantino's new film The Hateful Eight.

The director made the announcement at Comic-Con in San Diego, California over the weekend.

Morricone is famous for his work on A Fistful of Dollars, Once Upon a Time in the West and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, but The Hateful Eight will be his first Western music project in more than 40 years.

Tarantino, who showed fans a seven-minute supercut of the film at Comic-Con, has featured Morricone's music in several of his movies, including Kill Bill and Django Unchained.

The Hateful Eight, starring Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell and Michael Madsen, is due for release next year.
