Ken Rea has taught some of Hollywood's biggest names, including Orlando Bloom and Daniel Craig.

The New Zealand-born tutor works at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

Now he's written a book called The Outstanding Actor.

He says the key to success in acting is enthusiasm.

"There's something very infectious about enthusiasm. It spreads through the whole group, and it gives great energy and curiosity," he said on Firstline this morning.

Rea says Ewan McGregor and Damian Lewis have in spades, and without it, they wouldn't have been picked up by directors.
