Fake Flume ticket scam

One Auckland girl was almost scammed of $450 when she bought three Flume tickets on a Facebook group.

Hayley Charman found the tickets on a Facebook post where someone was advertising three general admission tickets.

Except when she went to pick them up, Ms Charman knew something wasn't right.

"She told me that she left them in her letterbox because she wasn't home... and told me to just leave money in there."

"But it seemed really sketchy as she got the address wrong, and the letterbox was hard to find. Plus who puts Flume tickets that are so valuable and sought-after in a mailbox?"

"When I saw them, I instantly knew they were fake because they didn't feel the same as normal tickets. They felt like just bits of paper"

So she took the tickets back to her flat and asked her flatmates for their opinion.

"They said that they were real and couldn't tell the difference. It was only until we found an old ticket where we could see the slight differences."

Ms Charman, who previously worked at George FM, says because she had experience handling tickets, she realised they weren't the real deal.

Lucky from my previous job I handled a lot of tickets and knew what they looked like.

"I was lucky that I could tell was a scam. This clearly wasn't his/her first time copying tickets."

Ms Charman believes this person has scammed many people before her.

"They must have gotten away with it so many times before, and innocent well-meaning people lost hundreds of dollars."

"Imagining spending money on tickets and building up excitement for a concert then getting there and being turned away. It's so low how it's stealing and preying off innocent people."

She has some advice for people buying tickets online.

"Get them verified first, before you hand over money. Call Ticketmaster, ask for a receipt or go see them in person."

"If you do realise you are being scammed or something is up, tell Ticketmaster, or if they take your money call the cops."

A Ticketmaster spokesperson says the company is aware of a small number of fraudulent tickets in circulation for the Auckland Flume concert and that anyone who is concerned they may have been scammed should contact police or point of purchase.

"This is a timely reminder that you must only purchase event tickets from trusted sources. Ticketmaster is the official ticketing agent for this event and customers should only purchase tickets through Ticketmaster."

"Please rest assured, if you purchased your ticket for Flume at Vector Arena through Ticketmaster you have nothing to worry about; your ticket will be legitimate and you will have no trouble accessing the concert."
