Bethesda Softworks' Fallout Shelter has managed to earn US$5.1 million in only its first two weeks of availability, new sales figures have revealed.

Originally revealed and released for iOS during Bethesda's E3 showcase this year, Fallout Shelter is a mobile game that puts the player in charge of building and maintaining their own personalised Fallout Vault.

Constructing new rooms, building relationships and protecting vault dwellers safe are some of the key features the game has to offer players.

Bethesda earns revenue through unobtrusive microtransactions. As Bethesda's Todd Howard pointed out during E3, the game's microtransactions are entirely optional, giving players a lunchbox of random items.

These lunchboxes can also be earned through normal gameplay progression by sending dwellers out to scavenge for resources. Additionally, constructions can be made instantly, unlike many other free-to-play apps currently on the market.

While it is only available for iOS at present, Bethesda's Pete Hines stated he expects the game to be made available to Android devices in August.
