Fans celebrate 200 years of Pride and Prejudice

Jane Austen's world famous novel, Pride and Prejudice, was first published today, 200 years ago in January 1813.

The story about love, society and marriage in 19th century England has been adapted into film and television drama countless times and the novel has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice on January 28th 1813, the Jane Austen museum in Hampshire will be putting two original first edition copies of the book on display.

Museum staff say they expect thousands of celebratory lectures, readings and productions of Pride and Prejudice to be taking place across the globe in honour of the 200th anniversary of the classic novel.
