A store dedicated to British boy band One Direction has opened in Wellington to eager shoppers of the screaming, teenage variety.

The band is performing here this weekend, but the shop opening got fans queuing from early this morning.

While fans screamed outside the band's hotel in Auckland, the One Direction infection also descended on Wellington.

Hundreds of 'Directioners' queued outside a temporary merchandise store from early this morning, waiting to get their hands on anything and everything they could afford.

They waited, sang and screamed until the doors finally opened and the mad dash began

There was a range of merchandise on sale, from lanyards to sticker books, t-shirts, even a Harry Styles doll.

The store is open until Sunday night when One Direction plays at the St James in Wellington - but will the fan gear sell out?

"There is a chance, you never know, but we do have backups that we can make a phone call on and get extra stuff in if it does sell out in the end," says Cassidy Meredith of Eleven PR.

But it wasn't just the merchandise the girls were after - there was a double pass to the concert up for grabs as well.

3 News had the pleasure of handing it over to the lucky winner – Emma – who screamed her appreciation.

But even for those who didn't win tickets, there's still only one name on their lips – One Direction.
