Fat Freddy's Drop are one of the biggest selling New Zealand bands of all time, with their debut album spent a record 107 weeks at the top of our charts.

But just four years ago though they were virtually unknown, but that all changed when they put out their debut album, Based on a True Story.

Now Fat Freddy's Drop are back, ahead of their much-anticipated sophomore album, The Big BW.

A lot has changed in the music industry since their first LP. CD sales have all but virtually collapsed. So, how do they think The Big BW will compare?

"I think we've made a great new album," says Mu aka DJ Fitchie. "You can't expect it to do as well as the last one. Obviously I hope it does. I hope it flies like the last one."

Based On A True Story sold more than 100,000 copies in New Zealand alone, and won the band a score of local and international awards.

And now with their new album on the horizon, the question does the "Big BW" mean?

"It's got something to do with a robot, Dr Boondigger and a brain-washing technique," explains Toby Laing aka Tony Chang. "It'll all become clear in a few weeks."

The band says it will be another six-to-eight weeks before The Big BW is released, but in the meantime the band will be giving Aucklanders a taste of what's to come when they play at the Powerstation tonight and tomorrow.
