Rapper Fetty Wap has been cited for three traffic charges after he was involved in a motorcycle accident on Saturday.

The 'Trap Queen' hitmaker was knocked off his bike after colliding with a car in his native Paterson, New Jersey.

Reports suggest Wap had been attempting to overtake a vehicle, but didn't see another one approaching in the opposite direction.

The hip-hop newcomer, real name Willie Maxwell, was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries and his representatives subsequently assured fans he is doing well.

A statement released on Saturday read, "Fetty Wap was involved in a motorcycle incident earlier today. He was treated at a local hospital and is in stable condition. His family wants to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support. They ask that you respect their privacy during this time. We will provide an update on his condition as it becomes available."

Further details about Wap's injuries have not been released, although he is featured wearing a brace on his left leg in a hospital bed photo posted online by his DJ pal Louie Styles.

The other driver involved in the collision was also hospitalised.

Meanwhile, Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale reveals the star has been handed summonses for traffic violations.

The 25-year-old stands accused of driving without a license, not having insurance and failing to produce a vehicle registration card, according to the Associated Press.

The accident comes at a bad time for Wap - he launched his self-titled debut album on Friday.

He celebrated the release at a star-studded bash, where the rapper admitted he wasn't too concerned about the success of the record.

"I don't give a goddamn if the album don't make it nowhere," he told Billboard.com.

"I don't care if I don't sell 100 copies if all my family bought it. None of that extra shit matter to me, bro, as long as I get a chance to live a dream a lot of people didn't."
