Filmmaker David R Ellis dies aged 60

Filmmaker David R Ellis has died in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was in pre-production on the upcoming film Kite with Samuel L Jackson. He was 60.

"So sad to hear of David R Ellis passing!" Jackson wrote on Twitter.

"So talented, so kind, such a Good Friend. He'll be missed. Gone too soon!"

Ellis directed the likes of Snakes on a Plane, Shark Night 3D and Final Destination 2, although his career in the film industry started back in the 1970s. He worked on the stunts for films including Brian De Palma’s Scarface, Lethal Weapon, Patriot Games and Fatal Attraction.

Ellis’ cause of death is unknown, says his agent David Boxerbaum.
