First Alien: Covenant poster released

A spooky new poster for the next film in the Alien franchise has been released with a simple, one-word message.

Run.

Alien: Covenant, which follows 2012's Prometheus, now has the earlier US release date of May 19, rather than August 4, as 20th Century Fox first announced.

The poster suggests Covenant will be more of a horror and closer in tone to Ridley Scott's 1979 original.

A classic xenomorph features prominently on the poster, emerging from darkness after being absent in Prometheus.

Covenant will see the crew of a colony ship discover a paradise planet with one single inhabitant - the android David, once again played by Michael Fassbender.

Scott has told media that it would focus on "why and how and when the [xenomorph] was invented" and "go back in to the back door of the first Alien movie".

Along with Fassbender, the film also stars Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Billy Crudup and Amy Seimetz.
