Fleet Foxes re-record second album

Cult folk rockers Fleet Foxes re-recorded much of their new album Helplessness Blues - because many of the tracks failed to live up to singer Robin Pecknold's high standards.

The fussy frontman was unimpressed and uninspired as the band started mixing tracks they had recorded for the follow-up to its eponymous debut - and demanded the tracks be reworked.

He tells Uncut magazine, "When we did the first mix of the album it was like, 'This is where we're at, not where we want to be.' I felt there were things that could be improved.

"I wasn't being precious about it. I wanted the album finished and out as much as anyone. But as soon as we started retooling one or two of the tracks, that opened the floodgates.

"There was absolutely no chance I was going to ever put out something that I wasn't totally convinced was as good as it could possibly be. I didn't care how many times we had to re-record stuff."

The album was originally slated for a 2010 release; it will now hit stores and the internet on May 2.
