US TV chiefs have dismissed reports a Flight Of The Conchords movie is in the works, after funnyman Bret McKenzie hinted at a big screen comeback for the comedy.

The series won over critics and fans alike with its 2007 debut, but New Zealand duo McKenzie and Jemaine Clement ended the show for good in 2009 after two seasons.

McKenzie has been promoting his new project The Muppets recently and he revealed in an interview he would love to resurrect the comedy on the big screen, saying, "We definitely want to make a Conchords film. Working on this big studio feature makes me excited about a large-scale Conchords movie with big musical numbers."

But bosses for American network HBO have quashed fans' hopes for a film, telling NME.com, "There are no plans for a Flight of the Conchords movie."
